General information

The Centre of Excellence for ICT in East Africa (CENIT@EA) offers scholarships for nationals of the East African Community (EAC) to pursue master’s studies in Embedded and Mobile Systems (EMoS) at the Nelson Mandela African Institution of Science and Technology (NM-AIST).
The main academic goal of this project is to strengthen teaching and research in Embedded and Mobile Systems in the EAC. The program is demand driven with industrial linkage in order to strength the entrepreneurial skills and the employability of graduates in this field. By closely cooperating with EA industries, new opportunities are offered to graduates, as their skills are directly matched to the region’s needs.

Target group

The project focus on graduates with a first academic degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM), as well as professionals working already in the academia or private and the public sector. The project especially aims to increase the enrolment and support of women, who still are underrepresented in STEM-related fields and the ICT sector.

Structure

The EMoS programme is structured in academic modules, which includes distinctive and integrative courses with high educational and practical content that address the local and regional development needs and challenges. The programme includes a variety of courses and it focus on four major topics, which are highly relevant for current industrial issues: Mobile Computing, Embedded Systems, Soft Skills and Basic Skills. Scholarships

The CENIT@EA finance scholarships to support only accepted students to the EMoS programme at NM-AIST. The scholarships awarded by CENIT@EA cover the tuition fees applied at NM-AIST, a monthly allowance, rent assistance, financial assistance for studies and research and writing and printing costs. CENIT@EA has established clear rules for a transparent, fair and equal scholarship recipient’s admission and selection process.

Who can apply for the scholarships?

The project CENIT@EA can only provide a limited number of scholarships, as it is aiming at an equal distribution among the members states of the East African Community. Applications for scholarships are open for nationals from Tanzania, Uganda Kenya, Rwanda, Burundi and South Sudan.
Scholarship applications are open to nationals from Tanzania, Uganda, Kenya, Rwanda, Burundi and South Sudan. The scholarship applicant must be able to present/upload an admission letter (proof of application for admission at NM-AIST) issued by NM-AIST to the EMoS programme. Furthermore, the applicant must have obtained a bachelor’s degree or equivalent in one of the following fields: computer science, information technology, electronics, electrical engineering, telecommunications engineering or other related fields. How to apply?

If you are interested in applying for a CENIT@EA scholarship, please consider the following items:
- You must first apply to the master programme in Embedded and Mobile Systems through the NM-AIST Online Admission System
- For a scholarship application you must submit all required documents through the CENIT@EA scholarship Application Form. Please remember, scholarship applications are only valid to the EMoS programme at NM-AIST.
- For the scholarship application you are in need of a valid e-mail address and a stable internet connection. Please use your own e-mail address, since this will be your main mean of communication with CENIT@EA.
- You can only fill out the scholarship application form and upload documents in the English language. ALL DOCUMENTS in other languages different than English must have a respective notarized English translation.
-Scholarship Application forms cannot be saved for later completion.
- Only complete, correct and submitted scholarships applications will be considered for the CENIT@EA scholarship award process.
