Report on DAAD Centres of African Excellence programme supported by the German Federal Ministry

The German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) published an English version of a final report providing an external evaluation of the Centres of African Excellence programme run by the DAAD. Where CENIT@EA is supported by the Federal Ministry for Economic Collaboration and Development, this centres covered by the report are financially supported by the Federal Foreign Office. The report evaluates the achievements of this programme, which has been operating for 10 years.

The African Excellence Network comprises ten Centres that are established around various academic disciplines, which include development studies, microfinance, logistics, criminal justice,
law, education, rural development, and governance for sustainable local development. These Centres
are located and regionally distributed across Africa.

The evaluation concludes that the programme has been largely effective and generated positive results. The supported Centres are moreover instrumental in the delivery of the 2017 Federal Foreign Office policy guidelines for Africa that indicate the need to facilitate education at all levels and the need to intensify cooperation in academia and research.
