CENIT@EA Summer School Training

The Centre of Excellence for ICT in East Africa (CENIT@EA) at the Nelson Mandela African Institution of Science and Technology (NM-AIST) in collaboration with an independent consultant organized two training sessions on Leadership and Change Management and Social Innovation through Social Entrepreneurship. The two training sessions took place in parallel at NM-AIST campus from 02nd to 06th November, 2020 which was followed by site seeing on 7th of November 2020 for Internet of Things (IoT) Trap Deployment at Ngorongoro Conservation Area in Arusha.

The two training sessions basically are tailor made programs that focused on best practices that will enable participants to become enthusiastic to apply the skills in the real world and become part of the change makers in their contexts. The major objective of Leadership and Change Management Training was to build capacity, confidence and pave the ways for future inspirational leaders by imparting leadership skills and prepare them to lead efficiently and professionally managerial roles and become part of the change makers in their contexts.

Whereas, the Social Innovation through Social Entrepreneurship Training focused on empowering participants to leverage their career in social innovation through entrepreneurial principles to solving pressing social issues and making sustainable impact in the society.
The facilitators for Leadership and Change Management and Social Innovation through Social Entrepreneurship were Mr. Junior Ndesanjo and Mr. Erick Crispin, respectively from the True Maisha Company Limited which is located in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania. A total of fifty (50) applicants were selected from NM-AIST, The Open University of Tanzania (OUT), Muhimbili University of Health and Allied Sciences (MUHAS), State University of Zanzibar (SUZA), Mbeya University of Science and Technology (MUST), University of Dar es Salaam (UDSM), Oxfam GB and Tanzania Agricultural Research Institute (TARI). However, forty-three (43) participants from NM-AIST and State University of Zanzibar were able to attend and be trained.

The CENIT@EA Center Leader, Dr. Michael Kisangiri and Dean of the School of Computational and Communication Science and Engineering (CoCSE), Dr. Shubi Kaijage opened the training on 2nd November, 2020. The two training sessions were jointly coordinated/ organized by the team leader Dr. Mussa Ally; which consisted of the following other team members: Ms. Dassa Nkini, Dr. Neema Mduma, Dr. Ramadhani Sinde, Dr. Silas Mirau, Ms. Bahati Swalehe and Dr. Judith Leo.

On the third day of the training sessions, all participants participated in the conference room for a 4-hour online presentation session from Kiira Motors Company Ltd which was followed by discussion. The presentation was presented by Mr. James Byansi from Kiira Motors which focused on explaining the “Establishment of the indigenous automotive industry – Kiira Motors”. His presentation was followed by presentation on industrial project of two Embedded and Mobile System (EMoS) students, Mr. Ivan Koojo and Mr. Jevinarlys Khamasi who are currently at Kiira Motors for their industrial attachment program. Mr. Ivan Koojo presented about Passenger Security System for the Kayoola EVS Bus whereas Mr. Jevinarlys Khamasi presented on Integrated Cashless Payment System for the Kayoola EVS Bus.
Lastly, certificates of attendance were issued to all participants on Friday 06th November, 2020 followed by site seeing at Ngorongoro Conservation Area on Saturday, 07th November 2020.
